Buds.. Still My 1st Choice

'First Aid Lotion' (seen as right in the picture) is the 1st product I used amongst "Buds" range. My colleague strongly recommended it after she learnt that my boy was suffered with mosquitoes' bites. Unbelievable.. just within minutes after I applied it onto my boy's affected area, I could see the big difference between "before" and "after". It's no longer swollen and red... totally gone without a mark (after few applies). Like its product name, it's so useful like antiseptic cream which can be applied for any small wounds. Some may resist the smell of "Eucalyptus". In fact, it's safe for baby because only natural ingredients are used in the production. Even later my boy's babysitter also asked me where she could buy this for her grandchildren. Now I always keep one in the rack. *Mozzier cream is good too.

'Baby Utensil/Fruit & Veggie Cleanser' (seen as left in the picture) is another my fave. Natural & safe is my main concern when making purchase for baby stuff. There're many good brands for cleanser but I personally like "Buds" for the "orange" fragrant... very natural & light. Normally I just use it to cleanse the feeding equipment, not fruit/veggie (as they're organic).

"Top to Toe shower gel" is great for baby who has allergic skin problem.

P/S: "Buds" has launched new packaging (since last year, I think) under Organic range.

A Handy Organic Marketing Guide

Today, I am lucky to come upon a blog (by a mom too) and her label of "green living tips" has caught my attention. By reading through it, I am intrigued by the title of "The Dirty Dozen" as well as "Clean 15" and the small piece of printed sheet which displays images of some veggies and fruits. What are they?

Thanks to a crafter cum a mom, Heidi Kenney (her site The Paper Crane) who creates the cheat sheet in such a colourful and pocket-size format. It provides a simple guide to help shoppers to choose which kinds of veggie/fruit to buy organic and which kinds are safer (of low pesticide level) to buy if non-organic.

Ashamed. I seldom buys organic veggie and fruit nowadays (since this year). But I feel much better when I find out that my boy's favourite kinds of veggie/fruit mostly belong to the "Clean 15". Even for apple and pear, we peel the skin off before he consumes.

Baby Goes Green: Pocket Cloth Diapers

Back to our baby times, our moms wrapped our bottoms on piece of squared white cotton napkin or cloth diaper. During that time, napkins were secured by big safety pins. Today, napkin fasteners (with three-side hooks) are highly recommended and sooner substituting the safety pins. Napkin fastener looks much safer but the con is that it can't hold the napkin as secured as the safety pin. In order to minimise the usage of disposable diapers, I'm still hoping to get a better alternative.

Until my baby was about 3 months old, my hubby emailed me a local website which sells pocket cloth diapers. It's introduced by his friend who bought few for her baby. Once I visited the website, I immediately urged my hubby to order the Sampler Pack (2 pieces). Yes, it was what I looking for - Blueberry's Cloth Diaper. Then I realised it's a premier brand (made in USA) in the market. The price I paid was about RM 120 per piece (now it's RM 100+). Certainly you can't compare its quality:
  • Outer layer - Ultra-soft Minky (plush "micro-fibre") that keeps wetness in
  • Inner layer - High quality Microfleece that keeps baby's bottom dry
  • Insert - Organic cotton or Bamboo cotton that provides superb absorbency
  • Designs - Varieties of funky and colours for laminated Minky
Commonly pocket diapers comes with 2 types of closures: (1) Hook & Loop (Velcro) ; (2) Snap (buttons). I chose one each for my Sampler Pack. Based on my experience, I found out my baby outgrow in the Snap closure faster than Hook&Loop (H&L).(see picture above - Baby @ 10 mths old wore Blueberry) H&L (size L) can hold up my baby well from 4 mths to 1 year old. Diaper changing is as easy as 123 at home - snap on or snap out. Also, you are not only saving up a lot of money but you are saving the Earth. It's worth the investment.

It's happy to know that many new moms are using pocket cloth diapers. Regardless the premier Minky type or the budget PUL type, they work same for the functions (easy-wear, save money & environmental-friendly). Currently I stock in some HAUTE's pocket diapers and sell them at attractive price, RM 30 per piece... to support your baby goes GREEN.

Baby Food: Organic Rice Cereal

My Baby's First Cereal: Why not? Organic First Flavour Cereal

Rarely I write about baby stuff here. All my "first-hand" experiences about looking after our first baby are in history now. Perhaps I only able to recall any when I ......

Last Sunday, I saw this rice cereal at the supermarket's Organic Food Section. When I took a picture of it, my tot asked me what it is. I explained to him that he used to eat this cereal (original flavour) when he was a baby. He finished 2 cans during 6-8 months.

If you are an organic-oriented mummy, you may be interested to introduce this rice cereal as the first weaning food for your little baby (at 6 months).
Just mix it with warm milk (breast-milk or formula milk).
Tips to wean your baby for 1st time:
  • Try to feed (10am - 12pm) after the 1st morning milk feed when baby's mood is joyous.
  • Start with small portion (1 tablespoon) and gradually add the portion if baby is not enough.
  • Don't force baby to finish the portion as he/she just starts to take solid food
  • Set a vibrant environment for baby to enjoy his/her first solid food (away from TV and Toys)
  • Say "yummy.. yummy..."

Organic Baby Sacque

Today, we not only can source organic foods for our little ones, but we can buy natural outfits which are made of organic cotton for them too. I guess a great lover of the mother earth is pleased to hear this.

Here I'd like to recommend an organic baby sacque (samples shown as left) from Kate Quinn (USA). Thanks to http://www.coochicoo.com.my who is the first and sole seller to bring this brand into Malaysia. Just go to the website to check out the product's details and more latest and coolest colours.

Back to the topic, I didn't really know how to use a baby sacque until I read the blogs about it from coochicoo's owner. Recalled my baby's early months (1-2), we had to get up every 2-3 hours to change his diaper the whole night (in the daytime as well). As we dressed him in long pant for nightwear, it's quite a hassle to undress and dress him over and over. Poor little baby cried over the discomfort and we were exhausted of that too. Neither we got a good sleep. Therefore when I see this urban chic design of KQ's organic baby sacque, I've made up my mind to prepare one for my next baby (still in big '?' , ha ha). I believe that it's better than a sleeping bag (which looks thicker).
